We’re excited to invite you to join us for a special online songwriting workshop with the award-winning charity Electric Umbrella.
Together, we’ll begin creating a brand new community song to celebrate Makaton for Makaton International Awareness Day 2026, and we want Makaton users to lead the way.
Electric Umbrella is known for creating joyful, inclusive music in collaboration with learning disabled and neurodivergent people. In this fun and interactive session, participants will be invited to share ideas, themes and signs that will shape the lyrics for the new song.
Makaton users are at the heart of this workshop. Your ideas, experiences and creativity will shape the song.
Families, carers and supporters and educational settings are very welcome to join and support. This could include schools, colleges and other learning environments taking part together. The creative direction will come from Makaton users taking part in the session.
After the workshop, Electric Umbrella will develop the groups ideas into the first version of the song. Participants may then be invited back for a second session to help sing and sign in the final recording and music video.
