Join The Makaton Charity and Talking Mats for a collaborative live webinar exploring how these two approaches can be used together as part of a Total Communication approach.
This session will showcase best practice in combining Makaton and Talking Mats to support people to understand, express themselves, and participate more fully in conversations and decision-making.
You’ll be introduced to the Talking Mats framework in a clear and accessible way, making this session suitable for both experienced Makaton users and those completely new to Talking Mats.
Through real-life examples and video excerpts, you’ll see how Makaton signs and symbols can be used alongside Talking Mats to create a rich, multi-modal communication experience. We’ll also explore the impact and outcomes of using both approaches together in practice.
Importantly, the session will also recognise that not everyone is immediately ready to use a Talking Mat. We will introduce the “Working Towards a Talking Mat” guidance, offering helpful approaches and case study insights to support individuals, particularly children and young people, to develop the skills needed to engage with Talking Mats over time.
